Exercise 2: Data Audit
Think through the last five times you used an AI tool for work-related purposes. For each interaction, write down what data you included in your prompt or input. Be specific — not "project information" but "details about client communication strategy," "internal budget numbers," "personnel evaluation notes," or whatever actually happened.
For each interaction, check whether any of the data falls into the categories from Lesson 2: client data, health information, privileged communications, financial information, credentials, or proprietary business information under NDA. For data that falls into these categories, note it. Then ask yourself: would you make the same decision now? If the answer is no, document what you'll do differently next time.
Use this exercise to identify patterns. Many people find that they have one or two categories of data that they repeatedly put into cloud AI tools without thinking. Once you see the pattern, you can interrupt it. The point is not to feel guilty about past decisions, but to change the default going forward.
