A workflow is useless without a trigger. A trigger is the answer to the question: "When should this automation run?"

Get the trigger right, and your workflow runs exactly when it should. Get it wrong, and you'll have an automation that either never runs or runs at the wrong time, or runs too often, or runs when you don't need it to.

The trigger is the most important decision you'll make about any workflow. Most beginner failures aren't about the actions—they're about picking the wrong trigger for the job.
